Direct Definition

Three carrier positions on the intermediate -20 platform.

The Universal Punch KK2-20 is a triple-indicator concentricity gage combining one Standard Carrier, one Side Carrier and one Vertical Carrier around the same component support system.

KK2 identifies the carrier relationship. -20 identifies the nominal 10-50 mm component-capacity class.

The defining KK2-20 capability is not simply three indicators. It is Standard, lateral and vertical measurement access within one supported rotational setup.

Model Selection

Is KK2-20 the right concentricity gage?

Start with component size, then choose the number and direction of indicator-access positions required by the inspection method.

Choose KK2-20

Standard + Side + Vertical

Choose KK2-20 when the -20 envelope applies and the inspection requires primary, lateral and vertical access.

Consider KK1-20

Standard + Two Side

Choose KK1-20 when three positions are needed but both secondary indicators require Side Carrier access.

Consider K2-20

Standard + Vertical

Choose K2-20 when two positions are sufficient and no separate Side Carrier is required.

Consider K1-20

Standard + Side

Choose K1-20 when two positions are sufficient and no Vertical Carrier is required.

Triple-Indicator Architecture

Three access positions. One supported rotational setup.

Each indicator position is configured from the drawing, usable contact geometry, datum relationship and inspection objective.

1

Standard Carrier

The primary configurable indicator position for the component and inspection procedure.

2

Side Carrier

A separate lateral-access position that can address another feature or axial location.

3

Vertical Carrier

A differently oriented indicator position providing vertical measurement access.

The indicators do not represent three permanently assigned characteristics. What each position evaluates depends on the support surfaces, datum structure, contact point, indicator direction, tolerance and documented inspection method.

Position One

Configure the Standard Carrier from the component drawing.

The Standard Carrier establishes the primary indicator position. Final contact location should be based on the feature being evaluated and its relationship to the component support datums.

  • Feature and datum relationship
  • Probe direction and clearance
  • Indicator range and resolution
  • Stylus reach and contact geometry
  • Shoulders, flanges and grooves
  • Threads, splines and transitions

Positions Two and Three

Side and Vertical access define the KK2 architecture.

The Side Carrier provides a lateral-access indicator position. The Vertical Carrier provides a differently oriented position above the supported component.

This relationship distinguishes KK2-20 from KK1-20, which uses two Side Carriers instead of one Side Carrier and one Vertical Carrier.

Choose KK2-20 when one secondary measurement requires Side Carrier access and the other requires Vertical Carrier access. Choose KK1-20 when both secondary positions require Side Carrier access.

Inspection Process

How KK2-20 is configured and used

All three readings reference the same supported rotational setup, while each contact position can address a different inspection location.

Confirm capacity

Verify diameter, overall length and usable component support surfaces.

Select rollers

Choose the -20 support geometry from the actual component lands.

Set the Standard Carrier

Position the primary indicator from the drawing and datum structure.

Set the Side Carrier

Technical FAQ

KK2-20 questions and direct answers

What is the Universal Punch KK2-20?
The KK2-20 is a triple-indicator concentricity gage with one Standard Carrier, one Side Carrier and one Vertical Carrier. It supports nominal component diameters from 3/8 to 2 inches and component lengths up to 6 inches.
What does KK2-20 mean?
KK2 identifies the Standard Carrier plus Side Carrier plus Vertical Carrier triple-indicator architecture. The -20 suffix identifies the intermediate 10 to 50 millimeter component-capacity class.
What component sizes can the KK2-20 support?
The catalog range is 3/8 to 2 inches, or 10 to 50 millimeters, in diameter and up to 6 inches, or 152 millimeters, long. The current general-data table lists an approximate minimum part length of 0.18 inch or 4.7 millimeters.
Why does the KK2-20 have three indicators?
The three indicators provide Standard, Side and Vertical Carrier measurement positions around the same supported rotational setup. Their exact contact locations and purposes are defined by the component drawing and inspection method.
What is the difference between KK2-20 and KK1-20?
Both are triple-indicator models with the same nominal -20 capacity. KK1-20 uses a Standard Carrier and two Side Carriers. KK2-20 uses a Standard Carrier, one Side Carrier and one Vertical Carrier.
What is the difference between KK2-20 and K2-20?
K2-20 is a dual-indicator model with Standard and Vertical Carriers. KK2-20 adds a Side Carrier for a total of three indicator positions.
What is the difference between KK2-20 and K1-20?
K1-20 is a dual-indicator model with Standard and Side Carriers. KK2-20 adds a Vertical Carrier for a total of three indicator positions.
Which main roller sets are used with KK2-20?
Universal Punch lists 120-20FP Full Plain, 120-20HP Half Plain and 120-20QP Quarter Plain main roller sets for -20 gages. Roller selection should be based on the actual usable support geometry of the component.
What is the standard -20 top roller?
The current parts list identifies the 170-20 top roller, measuring 3/4 inch by 9/32 inch or approximately 19 by 7 millimeters, as the standard -20 top roller.
Is KK2-20 eligible for Precision Gold?
Yes. The current parts list publishes Precision Gold for -10 and -20 models. KK2-20 is therefore within the eligible model range. Specify Standard Black or Precision Gold and confirm the selected classification during quotation.
Is the KK2-20 traceable to N.I.S.T.?
Universal Punch documentation states that its concentricity gaging systems are calibrated and directly traceable to N.I.S.T.
Can the KK2-20 be motorized?
Yes. The current parts list identifies the 280-20 variable-speed motor assembly for KK2-20, including a 17-inch or 432-millimeter base plate. The published drive system is 24 VDC with a 0 to 10 rpm variable-speed range.
What do the three KK2-20 indicators measure?
The indicators do not have three permanently assigned characteristics. Each reading depends on the component supports, datum structure, contact location, probe direction, tolerance and documented inspection procedure.
Does the Vertical Carrier define a fixed measurement?
No. Vertical Carrier describes the indicator-access architecture and approach direction. The feature being evaluated still depends on the component drawing, support datums, contact location and inspection procedure.
Is a concentricity gage the same as a concentricity gauge?
Yes. Gage and gauge are alternate spellings used for the same general inspection-equipment category. Universal Punch uses the spelling gage in its product names and documentation.
What should I send for a KK2-20 quote?
Send the component drawing, diameter range, overall length, support-journal geometry, all three measurement locations, datum relationships, tolerances, indicator requirements, calibration requirements and manual or motorized preference.
