Universal Punch Concentricity Gaging System K2 Series · -20 Dual Indicator · Standard + Vertical Carrier

K2-20 Dual Indicator Concentricity Gage

Two configurable measurement positions with Standard and Vertical Carrier access.

The Universal Punch K2-20 is a dual-indicator concentricity gage for cylindrical components from 3/8–2 in (10–50 mm) in diameter and up to 6 in (152 mm) long.

Its K2 architecture combines a Standard Carrier with a Vertical Carrier, creating two configurable indicator contact positions around the same supported rotating component.

Select the K2-20 when the component fits the -20 capacity class and the second measurement position requires vertical indicator access.

Application Decision Guide

Is K2-20 the right concentricity gage for your application?

Start with component capacity, then choose the carrier architecture from the number and direction of measurement positions required by the drawing.

Choose K2-20 Standard + Vertical Carrier

Choose K2-20 when the part fits the -20 envelope, two indicator positions are needed, and the second measurement requires vertical access.

Choose K1-20 Standard + Side Carrier

Use the same -20 capacity class when the second indicator needs lateral Side Carrier access.

Dual-Indicator Architecture

Two measurement positions around one rotational setup.

The defining value of K2-20 is the combination of a Standard Carrier position and a second Vertical Carrier position around the same supported component.

Measurement Position 1

Standard Carrier

Establishes the primary configurable indicator position. Contact location, stylus direction, range and resolution should be selected from the component drawing and inspection plan.

Measurement Position 2

Vertical Carrier

Provides the vertical-access measurement position that defines the K2 family. Use it where the second inspection feature benefits from a vertical probe approach.

K2-20 does not inherently measure two predetermined characteristics. What each indicator evaluates depends on the component drawing, support geometry, datum relationship, contact locations and inspection procedure.
Standard Carrier

Configure the primary measurement position from the drawing.

The Standard Carrier supports the first K2-20 indicator position around the rotating component. Its final location should be determined from the actual inspection feature—not copied from a catalog photograph.

Inspection feature Identify the diameter, journal, face, shoulder or other feature being evaluated.
Datum relationship Define what the indicator reading represents relative to the supported rotational axis.
Probe clearance Account for shoulders, grooves, threads, splines and adjacent geometry.
Indicator selection Choose range, resolution, stylus and contact direction from the inspection requirement.
Configuration principle: the indicator arrangement shown in K2-20 photography is an example. Final Standard Carrier positioning should come from the actual component drawing and tolerance.

K2-20 Vertical Carrier second indicator measurement position detail
K2-20 Vertical Carrier detail. Vertical access for the second measurement position defines the K2 architecture.
Vertical Carrier Architecture

Vertical Carrier access defines the K2 architecture.

The second K2-20 indicator is configured using a Vertical Carrier. This establishes a vertically oriented measurement-access position relative to the supported rotating component.

Choose K2-20 when the second indicator requires Vertical Carrier access. Choose K1-20 when the second indicator requires lateral Side Carrier access.

K1-20 and K2-20 share the same published -20 component envelope. The critical difference is therefore second-indicator access direction, not part size alone.

-20 Roller Selection

Stable support is the foundation of the K2-20 measurement.

Both indicators reference the same supported rotational setup, making the roller and top-contact configuration fundamental to the complete inspection.

120-20FP · Full Plain Full plain main roller set for suitable -20 cylindrical support geometry.
120-20HP · Half Plain Half plain support where nearby shoulders or component features require more clearance.
120-20QP · Quarter Plain Quarter plain support geometry for narrower or more constrained cylindrical support lands.
Engineering rule: a 2-inch maximum component diameter does not automatically determine the correct K2-20 roller set. Select support geometry from the actual cylindrical lands available on the component.

Evaluate journal diameter, journal width, shoulders, flanges, threads, splines, grooves, diameter transitions, support spacing, unsupported span, measurement position and component stiffness.

Published -20 top roller reference: Universal Punch documentation identifies 170-20, approximately 3/4 × 9/32 in (19 × 7 mm), as the standard -20 top roller. Confirm final top-contact geometry from the actual component and current production documentation.
