G2-20 Product Definition

The -20 Vertical Carrier configuration in the Universal Punch G2 family.

The G2 family uses the Universal Punch Side Checker architecture with a Vertical Carrier. The model suffix identifies the size class: G2 = Vertical Carrier architecture and -20 = 3/8–2 in / 10–50 mm diameter class.

G2-20 at a glance

The Universal Punch G2-20 is a Side Checker concentricity gage with a Vertical Carrier for cylindrical parts from 3/8–2 in (10–50 mm) in diameter and up to 6 in (152 mm) long.

Model logic: G2 identifies the Vertical Carrier architecture. -20 identifies the 10–50 mm size class.

Vertical Carrier Architecture

Position the indicator above the inspection feature.

The defining feature of the G2-20 is its Vertical Carrier. The carrier provides an indicator-mounting position above the supported component. Final probe direction, indicator position, stylus geometry, clearance and resolution should be configured from the actual part drawing and inspection requirement rather than from model number alone.

01
Review the part print

Identify the feature being measured, datum relationship, tolerance and intended inspection method.

02
Identify repeatable support surfaces

Select cylindrical surfaces that can support repeatable rotational inspection on the main rollers.

03
Position the Vertical Carrier

Configure the carrier, indicator mount and stylus so the probe can access the measurement feature from above.

04
Configure the complete measurement system

Select main rollers, top roller, indicator, resolution, accessories and manual or motorized rotation.

Selection principle: choose the G2-20 when the component fits the -20 inspection envelope and vertical indicator access is appropriate for the measurement feature.

-20 Roller Selection

Configure the support geometry around the actual component.

The G2-20 uses the -20 roller family. Roller geometry should be selected from the available cylindrical support surfaces, adjacent features, clearances and the actual inspection requirement rather than diameter alone.

Part Support & Contact

Stable support is fundamental to repeatable rotational inspection.

The component is supported on the selected roller configuration while the top roller and indicator system are positioned for the required inspection. Support lands, nearby shoulders, splines, threads, grooves and other geometry can influence the final roller and contact configuration.

Engineering principle: determine the G2-20 support and contact geometry from the actual component, not from nominal diameter alone.

Accuracy & Calibration

Choose the accuracy class appropriate to the inspection requirement.

Standard Black

≤4 µm 0.00016 in published accuracy classification

Current Universal Punch parts documentation identifies Standard Black at ≤4 µm and describes the gage classifications as calibrated and directly traceable to NIST.

Precision Gold

≤2 µm 0.000079 in · published for -10 / -20 model classes

Because G2-20 is a -20 model, it falls within the size class for which Precision Gold is published. Final G2-20 configuration and calibration package should be confirmed when ordering.

Manual Drive System

Smooth rotational inspection is part of the platform design.

Universal Punch literature describes a manual timing-belt pulley system that provides smooth part rotation during inspection. Current parts documentation also identifies dedicated -20 timing belts and a complete drive system for -10 / -20 models.

Optional Powered Rotation

The G2-20 has a dedicated variable-speed motorized option.

Current Universal Punch parts documentation lists a G2-20 Variable Speed Motor Assembly with a 17 in / 432 mm base plate. The current variable-speed drive architecture is documented at 24 VDC / 0–10 rpm with forward/reverse control.

G1-20 vs. G2-20

Same -20 capacity class. Different indicator-access architecture.

Side Carrier

G1-20

Choose G1-20 when lateral indicator access from the side best reaches the required inspection feature.

Vertical Carrier

G2-20

Choose G2-20 when indicator access from above better matches the inspection feature and measurement direction.

Selection rule: G1-20 and G2-20 share the same published 3/8–2 in / 10–50 mm size class. The primary selection difference is Side Carrier versus Vertical Carrier.
G2 Vertical Carrier Family

G2-10 1/8–1 in / 3–25 mm Up to 4 in / 102 mm Vertical Carrier
G2-20 3/8–2 in / 10–50 mm Up to 6 in / 152 mm Vertical Carrier
G2-40 3/4–4 in / current -40 class Up to 8 in / 203 mm Vertical Carrier

Configure the complete concentricity gaging system from one manufacturer.

Universal Punch does not publish the G2-20 as an isolated fixture. Its documentation defines a modular Concentricity Gaging System built by selecting the gage model, the main rollers, and the indicator(s) / accessories.

For G2-20, Universal Punch documents the model architecture, -20 roller system, top rollers, indicator carriers, indicator mounts, manual drive components, variable-speed motor assembly and calibration classifications as parts of the same overall inspection platform.
